This Cert III in Hospitality course reflects the role of individuals who have a range of well-developed hospitality service, sales or operational skills and sound knowledge of industry operations.
Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence and under limited supervision using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.
The Cert III in Hospitality course provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops.
Possible job titles include:
- Senior bar attendant
- Function host
- Guest service agent
- Front desk receptionist
- Restaurant host
The Cert III in Hospitality course provides students with the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge of the hospitality industry before taking that into the workplace to implement while completing on the job training.
While completing on the job training, our qualified assessors visit your workplace to review the learning progress and conduct assessment.
This Cert III in Hospitality course is available in two formats:
Option 1: Classroom training at our Sydney training centre with work placement which we organise for students.
Option 2: On the job training through your workplace.
If completing the Cert III in Hospitality course at our training centre, the Cert III in Hospitality course is delivered over 21 weeks.
- Week 1-12 includes 3 days of classroom training each week starting at 9am and concludes at 5pm.
- Week 13-21 will be on the job training at a venue which we arrange for the student.
If completing the Cert III in Hospitality course through on the job training at your workplace, we will arrange for a learning pack to be sent to you for all the learning and assessment which is to be completed.

The Cert III in Hospitality course is approved for federal funding under the Apprenticeship funding program. Funding is paid to an employer to assist with the costs of training staff. If you are a new employee who recently commenced work, you may be eligible for this funding program. Eligibility criteria apply and we will assist with performing eligibility assessments.
This course is run once every two terms, upcoming courses are:
- Term 3 - Classroom starts Monday 17th July - finishes Wednesday 4th October

The Cert III in Hospitality course offers students different ways to complete learning and assessment.
If completing the classroom training, assessment will be conducted in the classroom, then additional assessments will occur in the workplace when completing on the job training.
If completing the course through your workplace, assessments must be submitted for marking, plus additional assessments will occur in the workplace.
All assessments must be completed within 12 months of the commencement date.
Students will be provided access to an online learning portal which will support their learning and assessment. Students can download assessment material and upload completed activities for assessor marking.

The Cert III in Hospitality course requires a good level of literacy–speaking, reading and comprehension and writing. These skills are necessary for a person working in a hospitality role.
Our enrolment process requires students to complete a language, literacy and numeracy assessment to ensure they meet the minimum LLN requirements for the course. We want to make sure the selected program is not above the learners capabilities to participate.
Once a competent mark is awarded for all units, learners will be issued with a qualification for SIT30616 Certificate III in Hospitality. This qualification is Nationally Recognised Training.
Certificates are emailed to students however hard copy is available for additional fee.
