Course Details

The Traffic Controller Course (previously known as Blue Card) and Traffic Management Course (previously known as Yellow Card) are the two most common courses students complete to gain employment in the Traffic Management industry.

Legislation requires refresher training every three (3) years. 

Re-certification has a minimum requirement that you have already hold a current existing Traffic Controller or Implement Traffic Control Plan card. Photocards are only accepted if they are within 14 days of expiry.

If you do not meet these requirements, you will need to do the full Traffic Controller Course and/or Traffic Management Course or undertake an assessment day.


Pre-requisites

RMS Traffic Control Recertification has a minimum requirement that you hold a current or expired Traffic Controller or Implement Traffic Control Plan photo cards. Photocards are only accepted if expired for 14 days or less.  

You must also have a current White Card ( Construction Induction).

Students must also supply a USI number for this accredited course (you can create on here www.usi.gov.au )

Assessment completion

All eligible students are sent a Learner Assessment Work Book  via email.  Students must ensure their completed work book is printed, completed and brought to the practical assessment day for their assessor to mark.

Students must attend the practical assessment day to demonstrate competence in traffic their skills & knowledge.

Approved traffic trainer/assessors will assess your skills and knowledge throughout the day working at different worksites whilst performing different set ups and traffic management.


Training Program

Once approved to enrol into this program, you will receive an email with the required Learner Assessment Work Book.

Each student must provide on the day:

  • The completed work book to give to their assessor for marking
  • A valid USI number &
  • Their RMS Photocard(s) 
  • White Card

During the day the trainers and assessors will provide you with all the necessary evidence that is required by the RMS. Students will need to sign off on certain documents you are shown & will comply with documents which include:

  1. Traffic Control Plans
  2. Road Occupancy Permits
  3. Risk Assessments
  4. Safe Work Method Statements
  5. Equipment checklist
  6. Incident Reports
  7. Third-Party Reports
  8. Self-Evaluation Checklist
  9. Final Practical Assessment
This course is delivered by Affirm Training with all certificates issued by Affirm Training (RTOID:90024).

Each of the Traffic Control courses have the following units of competency associated:

Assessment evidence

The trainers and assessors will provide you with all the necessary evidence required by the Roads & Maritime Services (RMS).

We strongly recommend that all students take a copy of their workbooks they complete and supply for their assessment submissions.


Certification

Once successful in your course, Affirm Training will lodge your application to RMS for the issuing of the licence(s). It takes up to 3 weeks for RMS to issue licences and you should allow for this time.

In the interim, students are issued temporary Statements of Completion certificates on the day which are current for (90) days so you can start work.

Students will also be issued with a Statement of Attainment which is a nationally recognised certificate. One Statement of Attainment will be issued for each unit of competency which is successfully completed.

Do you sell work gear for construction?

How long is the Card valid for?

This card does not expire, however if you have not worked on a construction for 2 years or more, SafeWork NSW recommends attending a course to update your skills and knowledge.

ID Requirements - White Card and Forklift.

For all courses it is essential to provide photo ID (i.e. Passport, Drivers licence, Photo ID card, Student Card), however, the White Card and Forklift course requires 100 points of ID.

The acceptable documents for 100 points of ID are listed in the table below and contain both primary and secondary documents. You can provide only one (1) primary document with secondary documents to form 100 points. Alternatively, you can provide a combination of secondary documents to form 100 points. The combination of documents must contain a date of birth, current residential address, photograph and signature. Please bring original evidence of identity documents with you. Certified copies will not be accepted.

If you are unable to provide the correct ID, by law, you will not be permitted into the course.

Is the Certificate valid for use nationally?

As of the 1st of September, the General Induction Card is recognised nationally.

What happens if my Card is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed?

You can complete an application form (Replacement of a SafeWork NSW Construction Induction Card, form number ACC06) and submit to SafeWork NSW with the associated fee of $30, together with proof of training details, identification and a signed statutory declaration. Further information can be found on SafeWork NSW’s website or phone 13 10 50.

What is the difference between the "Green Card" and "White Card"?

Previously, participants who completed the WHS Induction course were issued with a “green card”. With legislation changes, participants are now issued with a “white card”.


General FAQs

Can Centrelink pay for me?

What you need to do is register with your local Job Network Agent. Your Employment Consultant will make the booking with us on your behalf and arrange payment with us directly. Unfortunately Centrelink does not pay directly.

Can I pay my package in installments?

Unfortunately we cannot offer this service, full payment of course fees are required at the time of booking. The good news is that we try to always offer value for money and keep course fees affordable, so you know that you are always getting good value, especially with our package deals which offer reduced prices!

Can you get me a job?

Although we cannot guarantee you a job, we would be delighted to refer you to an agent who may be able to assist you to find work.

What if I have trouble with written/spoken english for a Course?

Most courses will permit a student to bring a friend to interpret for them during training. If you do need assistance, we ask that you contact first before booking your course so we can advise if there are any restrictions. For example, Forklift training requires students to complete all assessments in English.

If the course permits, you may bring a friend along to the course or, alternatively, you can phone the National Translation service to book an interpreter. Visit the Immigration website for more information about help with translating.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment can be made at the time of booking using either a credit card, EFTPOS or cash. Invoices and acceptance of company cheques is by prior arrangement only.
